A multi-lingual professional with a strong educational background and practical training in International Business, Investment promotion and management, Operations Management and business negotiations, Faustin Karasira has gained significant expertise in developing and implementing government and corporate strategies and has played key strategic roles in the execution of several national and international initiatives in tourism and conservation.
Karasira is currently the Director of Operations of Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF) a professional organization, dedicated to promote and represent the interests of the Rwandan business community. Mr Karasira has been with PSF since October 2016, and has championed the transformation of the Federation by encouraging export facilitation, employment creation for women, youth and other upcoming investors as well as creating an advocacy role for the PSF aimed at promoting entrepreneurship.
Before joining PSF, Mr. Karasira has been the Head of Tourism Department at Rwanda Development Board (RDB) since January 2015 up to October 2016, and his core mandate was to drive the growth and regulation of Rwanda’s Tourism Sector. Prior to this appointment, Karasira was the Division Manager of Product Development Division since January 201 0. Prior to the appointment, Karasira worked for Rwanda Development Board and Rwanda Tourism & National Park Office for 13 years, and served into various positions: Head of Product Development Division, Head of Sales and Distribution for the entire tourism industry, and Head of Finance department.
Karasira has also formulated and implemented various strategies for the national tourism and conservation. Some of those strategies include the National MICE strategy, National Tourism Policy, Concession and wildlife policy, sustainable tourism master plan, etc. Karasira has initiated the establishment of the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) and the Tourism Chamber which is the leading chamber under the Private Sector Federation. He has a wider experience of working with Private sector, public institutions, regional and international companies, development partners such as World Bank, IFC, USAID, UNWTO, UNECA, German cooperation, Japan cooperation, and the civil society. He has lived throughout Africa, and traveled several times to Europe, Asia and the United States.
Karasira has served in different advisory positions, where he oversees the USAID funded tourism and conservation projects. He has been chairperson of the steering committee that was in charge of implementing the Congo Nile Trail, the pro-poor project funded by UNWTO and currently he is the board chair of ERC Socio- Development Company Ltd and a board member at the University of Tourism and Business (UTB). He serves as the Chair of Regional Tourism Committee at the Great Virunga Trans-boundary Collaboration – this is the trans-boundary secretariat for Rwanda, Uganda and DRC overseeing the conservation of Virunga protected area.
Karasira holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, from the Mount Kenya University, with concentrations in Strategic Management. He is fluent in English, French, Swahili, and Kinyarwanda.
