Tourism: a driver for economic growth
20 September, 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
For 2017, the World Travel and Tourism Council predicts a 3.8% rise in direct contribution of travel and tourism, which will greatly contribute to the world’s economy. With such a positive forecast of global levels increasing across main economic indicators of GDP contribution, job creation, investments and visitor exports will continue to benefit. The positive correlation relationship between tourism and economic growth for both developing and developed countries is evident but the sector still faces many challenges that could threaten future growth. Our four panellists will also examine how the industry must adapt to changing demographics, disruptive technologies and growing instability in certain regions.
This workshop will discuss:
- tourism as a business tool for economic development
- sustainable development strategies, particularly in developing economies
- how tourism can help attract investments and raise global trade levels
- the sector’s response to the aspirations and expectations of a connected and global mobile demographic
- Panama case study
